BREVARD, N.C. – Piedmont College's men's soccer team finally got its long-awaited 2020-21 season underway on Sunday afternoon as the team dropped a close game to conference foe Brevard.
The Lions (0-1, 0-1 USA South) mustered up just two shot attempts in the first 45 minutes of play as the Tornados (2-0, 1-0 USA South) dominated the shot chart in the first period.
Brevard managed seven shot attempts in the first half, many of which came early on in the game. The Tornados finally connected on their sixth shot attempt of the game as Viniciu Giannaccini netted his first goal of the season on an assist from Estevan Berto.
After that go-ahead score, the Tornados slowed down the offensive pace and attempted just three shots for the remainder of the game with just two attempts in the final 45 minutes.
Piedmont played with more urgency in the second half and rattled off nine shot attempts to run its total for the game to 11, but only five of those attempts were on goal. Brevard keeper Pedro Campos played all 90 minutes and notched five saves in his winning effort.

CAMERON EARLS led the way in shots for the Lions with four, but neither of his two shots on goal managed to find the nylon. Senior
CAMERON VERONA allowed just the one goal in his first start of the season and made a pair of saves on the other close shot attempts from the Tornados.
The game was well-contested throughout as each team tallied nine fouls, and tensions heated up near the end as five cards (four yellow, one red) were dished out, all in the in the last 47 minutes.

-The Lions recorded more shots (11-9) and more shots on goal (5-3) than did the Tornados, and did so with half the amount of corner kick opportunities (10-5).
