DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont women's lacrosse team threatened in the second half, but was unable to overtake Birmingham-Southern, falling 19-8 on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Demorest, Georgia.
Playing at the Walker Athletic Complex for the first time in nearly a year, the Lady Lions (0-1) received a valiant effort from goalie
KELLIANNE SCHLOSSER in her Piedmont debut. The keeper from Cooper City, Florida faced 58 shots and made 22 saves, a single-game program record.
On the offensive side, Piedmont was led by junior
AISLYNN KIMBRO, who scored four times to lead the team. Sophomore
LINDLEY WARD also delivered a hat trick with three goals while adding a team-best seven draw controls.
The Panthers (1-0) opened the scoring with a goal from Sydney Riley in the game's first two minutes. BSC was able to add four more goals in the next 12 minutes to extend its lead to 5-0 before Ward scored off a feed from
MACEY HIGGINS to put the Lady Lions on the board midway through the first half.
Kimbro added two goals late in the period but BSC was able to race out to an 11-3 edge at the break.
Piedmont came out on fire in the second half with a 3-0 run to cut its deficit to 11-6. After BSC was able to weather the storm, the Lady Lions were once again able to cut their deficit to five goals on Higgins' first of the season with 15:52 remaining.
However, the Panthers took over from there, scoring the final six goals of the contest to take the contest by 11.
Up next, Piedmont will remain at home, hosting Oglethorpe this Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- After a quick run from Piedmont to cut the score to 13-8 midway through the second half, BSC ended the game on a 6-0 run to pull away with win.

- The record bests the previous mark of 21, set by
MATTIE KEATON on two occasions.
