Men's Basketball Opens 2021-22 Season With 83-70 Win Over Bob Jones

DEMOREST, Ga. – In front of a roaring home crowd, the Piedmont University men's basketball team toppled the Bob Jones Bruins 83-70 Friday evening inside Cave Arena. The Lions led at the break and never trailed in the second half on their way to their first victory of the season.

RYAN JOLLY picked up where he left off with another 20+ point performance in his career as he added 23 points and 10 rebounds. JORDAN FOOTE also impressed with 17 points and six rebounds as a fifth-year senior. 



The Lions' defense kept the Bruins under 10 points until the 12:19 mark, but Bob Jones was electric from 3-point range where the Lions were icy in the first half. 

The Bruins tacked on seven three pointers in the first half and 10 overall, but Piedmont battled to still claim the lead late in the first half. Piedmont led 40-37 at the break and used a second half spark to claim the win. 

It was a two point game with Piedmont leading 48-46 when the Lions reeled off an 11-0 run to claim a 59-46 lead. The Bruins attempted to chip away at the lead, but Piedmont stretched it to 20 with under 10 to go in the contest. 

The Lions let the Bruins back in it late in the game as it was a seven point game with 1:25 on the clock, but Piedmont was able to seal it down the stretch with a layup and converting on a pair of free throw opportunities. 

Piedmont totaled 58 points in the paint while holding Bob Jones to just 22. Foote also added three blocks in the contest. 
 
TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont was able to connect from deep in the second half and used an 11-0 run to build a 59-46 lead.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--RYAN JOLLY led the Lions with 23 points and 10 rebounds to start his junior campaign. 
--The Bruins were 7-for-12 from 3-point range in the first half while Piedmont was held scoreless from deep going 0-for-9 in the first 20.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Piedmont led by as many as 20 points and never trailed in the second half. 
 
UP NEXT:
--The Lions return to action Monday evening hosting Sewanee at 7 p.m. inside Cave Arena.
