Lions Hold On For 77-75 Victory at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Piedmont University men's basketball team held on for a 77-75 victory on the road at Methodist Saturday. The Monarchs held the ball for the final shot, but the Lions' prevailed to move to 3-1. 

The Lions were connecting from behind the arc in the first half totaling 10 3-pointers in the contest. Both WILL RICHTER and ANDREW STIMPSON were perfect from 3-point range with Richter going 4-for-4 and Stimpson banking a pair. 

It was a close game throughout with neither team leading by more than six in the first half as Piedmont held a 34-28 lead after Richter made one of his three 3-pointers in the first half. 

The Lions led 37-34 at the half, but the Monarchs came out and claimed the advantage in the early minutes of the second half. Methodist led 45-42, but the Lions used a run of their own to build a 10 point lead 59-49 with 11:37 to play. 

Methodist used an 8-2 run to get back in the contest and in the final 7:00 it was no more than a five point game. Piedmont led 73-70 with 4:24 to go and the two defenses held tough allowing a total of just three baskets from the floor in the final four minutes. 

JORDAN FOOTE led the team with 18 points and 13 rebounds while JUSTIN QUICK added 16. Both Richter and ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS scored 14 points. 
 
TURNING POINT:
--ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS made a free throw with 29 seconds remaining to put the Lions up two and the Piedmont defense held the Monarchs from banking their final attempts. 
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Four starters for the Lions scored in double figures led by JORDAN FOOTE with 18 points. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--The Lions played just seven athletes in the contest bringing in AARON PALMER and LOGAN CRANFORD off the bench. 
 
UP NEXT:
--Piedmont takes on Bob Jones on the road on December 7 at 7 p.m. following the Thanksgiving break and final exams.
