RALEIGH, N.C. – The Piedmont College baseball team claimed a 3-2 win over William Peace to take the series Sunday. PEYTON IRVIN pitched 8.0 innings allowing just one earned run while striking out eight batters.

Piedmont began the game with a promising opportunity with three walks to load the bases after two outs to begin the frame. The Lions were unable to bring a run in leaving all three stranded. Irvin was dealing from the mound early including back-to-back three-up, three-down innings with four strikeouts through the first six batters.

In the second, Piedmont added a pair of home runs to take a 2-0 lead beginning with CONNOR JELLEY hitting his first career homer to lead off the inning. Two batters later, HARRISON TRAWICK added his second home run of the series. DUKE WODETZKI tripled in the inning, but was left stranded as all three hits in the frame were extra base hits for the Lions.

Piedmont chased the Pacers' starter in the second after that triple, and in the third, CONNOR JELLEY drove in the third run as JAMES WHITMER scored after being walked. The Pacers then answered back with a run in the bottom of the third after a single, sac bunt and a double.

In the fourth, the Pacers again scored but this time it would be unearned after an error earlier in the inning. The scoring ceased after the fourth inning as neither team could manage more than one hit in an inning through the duration. WILL JANOFSKY entered to pitch the ninth inning and earned his second save of the season.

Wodetzki and Jelley both had two hits for the Lions as Piedmont out-hit William Peace 7-5 in the game.

Up next, the Lions return home for a midweek matchup against Hampden-Sydney Wednesday at 7 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--CONNOR JELLEY both started and ended the scoring for the Lions with a solo home run to put Piedmont on the board and a single to drive in the game-winning run in the third.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
