Men’s Tennis Swept by Occidental on Day One of Orlando Trip

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Piedmont men's tennis team was blanked, 9-0, by Occidental in its opening match in Florida on Saturday morning.
 
The Lions were unable to take a line in the doubles and fell behind 3-0. Singles was more of the same as the Tigers took five of the six matches in two sets on their way to the 9-0 win.
 
After falling 8-2 at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the No. 1 team of CHRIS BALE and HOUSTON MEDLOCK battled but fell 8-5 to put PC behind 3-0.
 
In singles action, Occidental continued to roll. However, Piedmont's HOUSTON MEDLOCK responded after dropping his first set, 6-1, to win the second, 4-6, forcing the match to a third-set match tiebreaker.
 
However, the Tigers' Matthew O'Connor prevailed, 13-11, in the breaker to make the final score a clean sweep.
 
Up next, the Lions will be back in action tomorrow at 8 a.m. against Monmouth College before playing its second match of the day at 6:30 p.m. against the University of Saint Francis.
