ORLANDO, Fla. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team delivered a pair of convincing wins on Sunday in Orlando.
 
The Lions (4-4) began the day with an 8-1 triumph over Monmouth College before taking down the University of Saint Francis, 6-1, in the nightcap.
 
Match 1: Piedmont 8, Monmouth College 1
 
The Lions raced out to a quick 3-0 after sweeping the doubles in the morning against Monmouth.
 
JJ Gray and CHASE MORRIS did not drop a game to put the first point on the board. Then, after JARRETT GRAY and PATRICK DEMPSEY prevailed, 8-4, at No. 2, the No. 1 team of CHRIS BALE and HOUSTON MEDLOCK outlasted Joseph Shie and Zach Harris by winning the tiebreaker, 8-6, to give PC a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
 
Piedmont received dominating wins at numbers four through six singles with Morris (6-1, 6-0), Dempsey (6-1, 6-0) and MATT WILHELM (6-0, 6-0) combining to drop just two games with Dempsey providing the clincher at No. 5.
 
Medlock (6-3, 6-2) and JARRETT GRAY also won in straight sets as Gray dominated a second-set breaker to extend the Piedmont lead.

The Lions delivered their second straight strong performance to end the day 2-0.
 
With only one doubles point up for grabs, Piedmont took all three doubles matches in close fashion. PC won 6-4 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles while the No. 3 team of CHASE MORRIS and JJ Gray prevailed in a breaker.
 
Singles play was highlighted by CHRIS BALE's 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 as the Lions won all but one line.
