RALEIGH, N.C. – The Piedmont College baseball team struck early and often in an 8-3 win over William Peace in conference play Friday. The Lions' bats were explosive with two home runs, a triple and a double in their 11 hits in the game.
SAM CARPENTER earned the start for the Lions pitching 7.0 innings allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out five.
KELTON KIESCHNICK pitched the final two innings allowing only three hits and two runs.
In the second inning, Piedmont got on the board after
CONNOR JELLEY stole second and
CARTER BALLSTADT scored on the throw. In the fourth, the Piedmont bats came alive with two home runs and a triple as
CAMERON JACKSON and
HARRISON TRAWICK homered then
TYLER SHELEY drove in another run with a triple.
William Peace got on the board in the fifth inning making it 4-1. In the sixth, Piedmont again had a multi-run inning with three runs on four hits while stranding two.
Piedmont's final run came as
ZACH NORMAN scored on a wild pitch making it 8-1. The Pacers tacked on two runs in the bottom of the eighth with two runs on two hits.
Up next, Piedmont returns to conference action against the Pacers Saturday at 2 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont saw a pair of home runs in the fourth inning to distance themselves from the Pacers with a total of three hits, all extra base hits.

HARRISON TRAWICK finished a triple shy of the cycle going 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored.
