ATLANTA, Ga. – The Piedmont College baseball team pushed Emory to the brink on Wednesday in a 9-8 road loss to the Eagles. Piedmont scored to make it a one run game with the tying run at second and no outs in the ninth inning, but the Eagles clung to victory.

It was all Eagles early through the first three innings as Emory took a 6-0 lead scoring one in the first, two in the second and three in the third. Piedmont used a total of seven pitchers Wednesday going through the staff to get individuals time on the mound.

Piedmont's starter PEYTON IRVIN was rattled early giving up three runs with two walks, but the Lions' pitching staff settled in not allowing another walk in the contest while the Eagles issued 10 walks to the Lions.

No pitcher went more than 1.2 innings as MATT ALTER was second up for the Lions, then followed by five pitchers who saw an inning of work each.

Piedmont scored in the fourth inning to make it 6-3, but fell behind 7-3 in the fifth. The Lions had been no-hit through the first three innings, but in the sixth, HARRISON TRAWICK had one of Piedmont's two extra base hits in the game with a 2-RBI triple making it 7-5. The Lions would tie the game in the seventh at 7-7 after three straight singles loaded the bases, then a pair of walks sent across two runs.

In the bottom of the seventh, WILL JANOFSKY entered and ultimately, ended with the loss on the mound giving up two runs on one hit and a pair of errors. The Lions totaled four errors in the contest.
