BREVARD, N.C. – The Piedmont College baseball team claimed a series sweep over Brevard Sunday with an 11-5 win against the Tornados. The Lions took a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning and continued the offensive prowess shown through the series scoring 11 or more in all three contests against Brevard.
The Lions batted around in the first inning as
WES SNYDER started and ended the frame at the plate. Snyder was walked to begin the game,
TYLER SHELEY singled and
JONATHEN BURKETT was walked to load the bases with one out.
KYLE DEJESUS singled to bring in the first run, then a fielder's choice by
JAMES WHITMER brought around Sheley.
CARTER BALLSTADT doubled to bring in another pair of runs making it 4-0 before
EVAN MEADE singled to score Ballstadt.
With a 5-0 lead,
NATE ROTENBERGER took the hill pitching the first four innings allowing seven hits and three runs.
MATT ALTER made a quick relief appearance before
WILL JANOFSKY settled in on the mound where he earned his first win of the season. Janofsky pitched 3.2 innings in relief allowing just two hits while striking out four.
Brevard made it a contest coming back to score four runs making it 5-4, but the Lions added two runs in each the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to seal the deal.
Three Lions had multi-hit performances led by Sheley's 3-for-3 day while Ballstadt and Whitmer both had two hits.
Up next, the Lions head to Emory to take on the Eagles Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Atlanta.
