Rotenberger Leads Piedmont to 4-1 Win Over Roanoke

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 4, Roanoke 1
Records: Piedmont 2-3; Roanoke 4-2

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior NATE ROTENBERGER earned his first collegiate win Sunday leading Piedmont to a 4-1 win over Roanoke helping the Lions improve to 2-3 on the season. Pitching was key for the Lions on Sunday allowing just seven hits.

The Maroons were on the board quickly manufacturing a run in the top of the first after a two-out double then a throwing error allowed Cale Agee to score.

The momentum was short-lived as the Maroons would not manage more than a single hit in any inning of the game. Rotenberger gave way to NATHAN BOYCE in the sixth inning with a 4-1 lead and Boyce tossed two clean innnings allowing two hits and striking out two.

WILL JANOFSKY earned the save pitching the final two innings allowing two hits to the eight batters he faced.

Piedmont got on the board in the third inning thanks to a KYLE DEJESUS single to drive in HARRISON TRAWICK and WES SNYDER to give Piedmont a 2-1 lead. It was the same portion of the order that got it done an inning later as Trawick doubled to drive home Snyder in the fourth inning.

DUKE WODETZKI drove in the final run for the Lions as JONATHEN BURKETT scored in the fifth while DeJesus was out on a play at the plate.

Piedmont had eight hits to the Maroons' seven in the contest. Trawick was the lone Lion with more than a single hit as he was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Up next, the Lions return home to host Oglethorpe Tuesday at 7 p.m.
