SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team fell, 8-1, at No. 22 Sewanee on Saturday afternoon at the Charlotte Guerry Indoor Tennis Courts.
 
The Lions (1-2) dropped all three doubles lines but were able to take a point with JARRETT GRAY's win at No. 2 singles before the Tigers (1-0) clinched the match.
 
DALTON PATTERSON and ROMAN WEBB made their spring debuts for Piedmont, falling, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.
 
Singles play was highlighted by Gray's grueling win at No. 2 over Sewanee's Dane Hawthorne. The sophomore from Gainesville, Georgia won a first set tiebreaker before losing the second set, 6-2. However, Gray bounced back to take the third-set match tiebreaker, 10-5, to put a point on the board for the Lions.
 
Four newcomers and three freshmen took the court in singles play for PC, as WALKER VONK made his Spring debut, falling, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6.
 
Up next, Piedmont will be off for over a week before returning home to host Berry next Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
