BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Piedmont women's lacrosse team lost 22-13 at Birmingham-Southern to open its 2020 season on Wednesday. 

Senior ROWAN BUMPASS scored five goals to lead Piedmont (0-1) while MACEY HIGGINS (3,0) and EMMA FRANSEN (1,2) each had three points. 

BSC (2-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Fransen and DOMONIQUE STEELE scored goals for Piedmont. After trading goals, BSC scored five unanswered to pull ahead 10-3 with 15:21 left in the first quarter. Piedmont fought back, but trailed 13-5 at halftime. 

A pair of Lady Lions goals cut the deficit to six, but BSC answered and pulled ahead 17-9 with 15 minutes left to play. Piedmont reeled off four straight goals to pull within four, but the Panthers answered with a five-goal run to end the game. 

Steele finished with two goals and two assists while CASSIDY HEFLIN added the same stat line. Fransen and Erin Alyward each picked up four ground balls.

Leading 5-3, BSC used a 5-0 run to lead 10-3 midway through the first half.
