GREENVILLE, S.C. – Piedmont College's men's basketball team opened its 2020-21 season in a big way on Saturday as the Lions cruised to an 88-64 victory on the road at Bob Jones University. Sophomore ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS led all scorers with 20 points and helped guide the Lions to their second straight season-opening win.

The Lions left little doubt after starting the game hot and outscoring the Bruins 21-9 over the first 10 minutes of action. After jumping out to the big lead, the Lions never let the lead slip back into single digits for the remainder of the contest and eventually led by as many as 35 in the second half.

Piedmont balanced its attack between the two halves and mostly went inside the paint to score in the first half before stepping out to the three-point line in the second half. The Lions were just 1-8 from three-point range in the second half but went 5-9 from deep in the final 20 minutes to help extend their lead and secure a 24-point win.

Regardless of how they scored, the Lions were efficient and finished the game 33-61 (54.1%) from the field and 16-20 (80%) from the free throw line.

Clements-Owens was joined in double figures by sophomore RYAN JOLLY, who totaled 14 points in his first game for Piedmont. The transfer from Lander University grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists in addition to his 5-11 shooting performance.

Other double-digit scorers for Piedmont included WILL RICHTER and Mikey Joseph as the upperclassmen totaled 14 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench. EVAN EASTON led all players with seven rebounds in his 13 minutes of action as a reserve.

TURNING POINT:
Piedmont began the second half on a 16-2 run to extend the lead to 30 and never looked back.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

Jolly: 14 points in Piedmont debut, added six rebounds and four assists
