DEMOREST, Ga. – Despite a career-high afternoon from
ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS, the Piedmont College men's basketball team dropped a 78-70 game against East Texas Baptist Saturday. Clements-Owens scored a career-high 27 points and added a career-high four steals on the day.
Clements-Owens got the scoring started early with Piedmont's first points of the night knocking down his first of seven 3-pointers. The Lions struggled to maintain possession with three turnovers before the first media timeout.
The Tigers used a 13-2 run to build a 10-point lead at 17-7 with under 10:00 on the clock in the first half and never trailed from that point on. The Lions were able to battle back to within five in the first half but trailed at the break 40-30.
Piedmont looked good out of the gate to start the second half getting the lead to 44-38 on a
WILL RICHTER jumper, but the Tigers continued to battle and pushed it back to a 10 point spread.
The Lions came closest to regaining the lead with an 8-0 run including 3-pointers by
RYAN JOLLY and Richter to make it 48-46 with 12:52 to play. ETBU built back to an 11-point lead and never let the Lions cut the lead to less than four.
The final minutes inside Cave Arena were eventful as the Lions continued to keep it close, but the Tigers held on to secure the 78-70 victory.
Piedmont's bench accounted for just 14 points in the game while the Tigers had just six points off the bench. The Lions were also outscored by 10 on second chance points.
TURNING POINT:
-The Tigers used a 9-0 run midway through the first half to build a 17-7 lead and used that 10 point advantage to keep Piedmont at a distance throughout the contest.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-
ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS posted a career-high 27 points going 7-of-12 from deep hitting all his shots from the floor from behind the arc.
-ETBU's Charlie Cochran led all scorers with 35 points and notched the only double-double of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
-Piedmont out-shot the Tigers from 3-point range scoring 10 3-pointers to ETBU's four 3-pointers, a difference of 18 points.

-Piedmont is set to host Transylvania next weekend on Friday and Saturday inside Cave Arena.
