Lions Run Away From Bruins Late 93-76 After Second Half Battle

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 93, Bob Jones 76
Records: Piedmont, 2-1; Bob Jones, 1-3

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Piedmont College's men's basketball team struggled during the early stages of the second half of its Tuesday night game at Bob Jones, but found a rhythm late to run away from the Bruins and earn a 93-76 victory. In the final 8:05, the Lions outscored the Bruins 25-5 to retake the lead and hold off the second-half BJU charge.

Despite taking an 11-point lead into the halftime break, the Lions struggled to get much offense going in the early stages of the second half, and the Bruins took advantage by outscoring the Lions 21-4 during a long rough patch for Piedmont. At the 8:05 mark, a lay in from sophomore RYAN JOLLY cut the Bob Jones lead to just 71-70 and served as the first bucket of the 25-5 run that led Piedmont to the win.

Jolly led all scorers with a career-high 30 points in the game. He scored 15 points in each half to balance his production.

Immediately following Jolly's bucket was a 6-0 scoring run for junior DALTON MEELER, who during that span made all three of his shot attempts and added four rebounds to his game total. Meeler finished with six points and a career-best seven rebounds in just 13 minutes of work.

The Lions defeated this same Bob Jones team 88-64 earlier this season, and a strong start to Tuesday's game had them poised for another sizable victory before the second-half struggles halted the route. Senior JORDAN FOOTE led the way early for Piedmont and notched a 19-point, 10 rebound double-double in his first game back after missing the last contest.

Much of Piedmont's early success stemmed from 14 BJU turnovers in the first half that led to 25 points for the Lions. The Bruins limited themselves to just five turnovers in the second half, which was paramount for their comeback attempt. Both teams totaled 19 turnovers in the game.

Piedmont outpaced the Bruins in numerous team categories, including rebounds (42-33), points in the paint (40-30), and points off turnovers (40-30).

TURNING POINT:
- A 13-0 run just past the halfway point of the second half catapulted the Lions back to the lead. Within that run were six straight points from DALTON MEELER. That run ultimately grew into the 25-5 run to finish the game.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- RYAN JOLLY: career-high 30 points on 9-12 shooting from the field
- JORDAN FOOTE: double-double (19 pts, 10 reb) to accompany a career-high five steals
- DALTON MEELER: six points (all consecutive) and career-high seven rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Neither team left many points on the floor as both sides were efficient at the free throw line (PC – 16-18, BJU – 11-14).

UP NEXT:
- Piedmont will play back-to-back exhibition games in the next week, starting with a 3:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, November 25, at The Citadel. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
