DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team made a valiant comeback attempt but fell short, 3-2, to N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.
Neither team was able to generate much offense in the early minutes until N.C. Wesleyan's Lorenzo Cocchia slipped behind the Piedmont (3-3-1, 2-2-1 USA South) back line and tallied the game's first goal.
The Battling Bishops (7-2-1, 5-1 USA South) sprinted out of the gate in the second half, scoring two goals in the first 30 seconds of the period to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Lions gave themselves a chance late, as
JOSE LINARES converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute.
Piedmont continued its rally as
MALAMIN JALLOW scored his second collegiate goal off a beautiful feed from
BRANDON RAMOS.
From there, N.C. Wesleyan tightened its defense and held on for the 3-2 victory.
Up next, the Lions will remain at home to face off with LaGrange on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- Leading 1-0 at the break, the Battling Bishops' Baboucarr Njie converted a penalty kick just 15 seconds into the half before Matteo Costa added another goal only 15 seconds later.
