DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team won a 3-2 thriller over Methodist on Friday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.
Playing a man down, the Monarchs (2-4-1, 1-3-1 USA South) were able to score the equalizer in the 78th minute. However, the Lions (3-2-1, 2-1-1 USA South) answered back just over six minutes later when
JOSE LINARES' free kick curled into the top right corner of the net to give Piedmont its first win over Methodist since 2003.
For the second consecutive home contest, the Lions surrendered an early goal, as Methodist's Christopher Shoffler struck in just the 11th minute.
PC did not trail for long as
CAMERON EARLS delivered an on-target cross that allowed
VICTOR MUNOZ to find the back of the net and tie the score at 1-1.
Piedmont kept the momentum going, as Earls added his third goal of the season just minutes later, bending one in from a difficult angle after the Methodist keeper was displaced.
Despite playing a man down for the final 25 minutes, Methodist battled back and equalized at 2-2 before Linares responded with the game-winner with just over five minutes left.
Up next, the Lions will remain home to battle N.C. Wesleyan tomorrow at 2 p.m.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Linares and Earls each delivered their team-leading third goals of the season while Earls tied Linares for the team lead with his fourth assist.
NEWS AND NOTES:
- Piedmont's win over Methodist was its first since the schools' first meeting in 2013 and marks the first time the Lions have defeated the Monarchs in Demorest.
