ROME, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team completed competition at the ITA South Regional Championships on Sunday afternoon in Rome, Georgia.
The Lions had a total of 17 players compete at the event, which started on Friday, Sept. 20 and ran through Sunday, Sept. 22.
The returning duo of
HOUSTON MEDLOCK and
CHASE MORRIS advanced to the Round of 16 in Doubles Flight B with an 8-4 win over Connor Murphy and Alex Ruble from Berry.
Newcomers
KYLE GRAVES and Matt Wilhelm also won their first doubles match in Flight B, outlasting Covenant's team of Gill Dunn and Benjamin Luke by winning the first seven points of a tiebreaker to win 8-7 (0).
Singles action was highlighted by freshman J.J. Gray's run to the quarterfinals in flight C. Gray won his first two matches in straight sets.
Also competing in Flight C, freshman
PATRICK DEMPSEY won three straight matches after dropping his first to win the consolation bracket.
In flight D, freshman
COOPER KEWORK won three straight singles matches before falling in the final of the flight while fellow freshman
WALKER VONK made a run to the semifinals of the same flight.
Up next, the Piedmont College women's tennis team will travel to Rome to take part in the ITA South Regionals, beginning Friday, Sept. 28.
