DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team battled Brevard to a 2-2 draw in its 2019 home opener on Tuesday night in Demorest, Georgia.
 
After surrendering a goal in the early minutes, the Lions (2-1-1, 1-0-1 USA South) equalized just under eight minutes later, taking advantage of an own goal.
 
Both teams were held off the scoreboard until the 77th minute, when NICK POPE put away a wide header from CAMERON EARLS to give PC a 2-1 lead. The Lions held that lead until the final minute, when the Tornados (0-3-1, 0-0-1 USA South) tied the score with just under 30 seconds remaining.
 
Piedmont desperately held off a furious Brevard attack in the two overtime periods, as CAMERON VERONA made three saves in the final 20 minutes to help the Lions escape with a draw.
 
Both of PC's goals occurred off set pieces with the own goal coming off a free kick while Pope's go-ahead goal was off a corner.
 
Up next, the Lions continue USA South play as they head to the road to take on Covenant this Friday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- In a last-ditch effort for Brevard, a bouncing ball off a long throw-in found Lucas Campos, who converted the equalizer in the final 30 seconds.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- After dishing out two assists on Saturday, CAMERON EARLS delivered another assist Tuesday night, finding Pope for the go-ahead goal late in the second half.
- Fresh off his second USA South Defensive Player of the Week award this season, CAMERON VERONA made seven saves including three in the overtime periods to help the Lions escape.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Each side earned eight corner kicks.
- The Tornados held a 24-16 shot advantage.
