Lions Roll Past Pfeiffer 4-0 in USA South Opener

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team delivered a 4-0 shutout in its conference opener at Pfeiffer on Saturday afternoon in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
 
The Lions (2-1, 1-0 USA South) struck for a pair of goals in each half to run away with the shutout victory.
 
The veterans for Piedmont led the way as senior JOSE LINARES tallied a goal and an assist while junior CAMERON EARLS scored the team's final goal and also added two assists. The other two PC goals were netted by seniors VICTOR MUNOZ and BRANDON RAMOS.
 
Piedmont was able to break the scoreless tie as Munoz notched his first goal of the season in the 18th minute off an assist from Earls. The Lions were able to add a key insurance goal minutes before the half as Linares earned a penalty kick and beat the keeper for his second goal of the year.
 
PC began to pull away midway through the second half on BRANDON RAMOS' first goal of the season off another assist by Earls.
 
Finally, the Lions removed all doubt just over six minutes later as, this time, it was Linares feeding Earls to cap the PC scoring.
 
Despite Pfeiffer (1-2, 0-1 USA South) holding an 11-10 shot advantage, the Lions made the most of their chances, converting on 4-of-10 shot attempts.
 
Up next, Piedmont will make its 2019 home debut, hosting conference foe Brevard this Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- With a 1-0 lead nearing the end of the first half, Linares earned a penalty kick and converted the chance to give the Lions momentum heading into the second half.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- CAMERON EARLS (one goal, two assists) contributed on three of the four Piedmont goals in a 4-point day while JOSE LINARES (one goal, one assist) added three points himself.
- Goalkeeper CAMERON VERONA delivered his second shutout in three contests, making all four of his saves in the second half.
