BREVARD, N.C. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team delivered a 9-0 shutout win in its 2019-20 season opener at Brevard on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Lions (1-0) did not drop a set in singles and took all three doubles matches easily to take its 1-0 record into the spring season.
 
Freshman J.J. Gray partnered with ROMAN WEBB to win 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. They were followed by the experienced team of HOUSTON MEDLOCK and CHASE MORRIS, who won 8-2 at No. 2.
 
The Lions completed the doubles sweep as freshman PATRICK DEMPSEY and sophomore JARRETT GRAY nailed down an 8-3 victory at No. 1.
 
Piedmont continued its strong play in singles as it did not drop a single set. Newcomers Matt Wilhelm, along with JJ Gray and Dempsey each earned the first singles wins of their career while Medlock and Morris delivered dominating performances at No. 2 and No. 3.
 
JARRETT GRAY was victorious in a tough battle, taking down Brevard's Christian Rogerson, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to give PC the shutout.
 
OF NOTE:
- The Lions delivered the shutout victory after battling for a pair of 5-4 wins over the Tornados (0-1) last season.
 
UP NEXT:
- The Lions will travel to the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Berry College beginning Friday, Sept. 20 and running through Sunday, Sept. 22.
