ATLANTA, Ga. - The Lady Lions dropped a pair of contests Saturday including a heartbreaker in five against Emory & Henry. Piedmont dropped a 3-0 decision to Sewanee to start the day and fought till the end in a 3-2 loss to the Wasps. 

A slow start again plagued the Lady Lions against Sewanee as they fell behind 11-3 in the first set and could not overcome the difference. Piedmont closed the gap to 19-14 and then again to 23-19 but dropped the opening set 25-19. 

The Lady Lions worked ahead in the second set with a 12-7 advantage, but a 7-1 run by the Tigers erased the lead making it 14-13 Tigers. The two went point-for-point for some time but again Sewanee outlasted Piedmont for a 25-22 win. 

Piedmont again held an early lead but a 5-0 run by Sewanee put the Tigers up 10-6 and a later 7-0 run sealed the deal as Sewanee claimed set three 25-18. 

In the second match of the day against Emory & Henry, it was a tight match in the opening set with the Wasps taking the opener 26-24. The first set saw Piedmont fall behind 7-1 early but fight back to cut the deficit to 16-13. The rally saw Piedmont come from 24-21 to tie the contest at 24-all, but the Wasps held on in the end. 

Piedmont blared out of the gates in set two with a commanding 7-0 start and proceeded to take a 21-5 lead before claiming the second set 25-8. The third set was a much tighter contest as the two went back-and-forth with Emory & Henry pulling ahead 20-18. Piedmont called a timeout and managed a comeback to claim the third set 25-23. 

In the fourth, Piedmont struggled again trailing 11-3, and ultimately fell 25-20 to tie the match at two. In the fifth set, the two were tied at 7-all, but Emory managed the final two points to win 15-13. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont fell behind 11-3 but rallied in the first set to cut the deficit to 23-19 but could not keep pace with the Tigers losing in straight sets. 
--Despite a convincing 25-8 win in the second set against Emory & Henry, it was the Wasps who would take the second match 3-2. 

Standout Performances
--ALINA ROBERTS tallied 10 kills against Sewanee in her first appearance of the season and added 15 against Emory & Henry.
--SARA DICARLO served as libero in the Emory & Henry match and accounted for 25 digs. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont is now 1-3 after opening weekend.

--The Lady Lions host Truett-McConnell Tuesday, September 3 in the home opener at 7 p.m.
