Volleyball Wins 5-Set Thriller v. Truett McConnell in Home Opener

DEMOREST, Ga. -
 
The Lady Lions won a thriller inside Cave Arena Tuesday evening with a 3-2 win over Truett McConnell featuring a late rally in the fifth. Trailing 15-14 in the fifth set, Piedmont called a timeout and rallied to score three straight and claim the set in dramatic fashion. 


Piedmont opened with a dominating 25-13 win in the first set as ALINA ROBERTS tallied six kills in the opening set. The Bears bounced back to take the second set 25-20 and it was a back-and-forth battle that ensued. The Lady Lions took a 2-1 lead in the third with a 25-23 win after trailing 21-17 late in the set. 

The fourth set would again belong to the Bears who claimed it 25-20 with it all coming down to the deciding set. The Bears took a 6-3 lead but the Lady Lions were relentless and came back to tie it at 7-all. Piedmont took an 11-9 lead but then the score would be tied at 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15.

At 15-14 with the Bears leading, Coach Jamie McCormack called a timeout and rallied the Lady Lions to a victory claiming the last three points. ALINA ROBERTS led the team with 17 kills while JESSICA BEIL had 26 digs. HANNAH KATE CHADWELL added to an impressive start to her career with three blocks. 

Turning Point
--After trailing 15-14 in the final set, the Lady Lions managed three straight points out of a timeout to claim the victory. 

Standout Performances
--ALINA ROBERTS tallied 17 kills while ERICA BALKCUM added 16. 
--JENNA WENDEL had 49 assists to go along with 14 digs. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont wins its home opener for the second year in a row.
