Jenks Brothers Lead Piedmont In 13-9 Win Over Brevard

DEMOREST, Ga. – Junior BRADY JENKS and freshman AVERY JENKS combined for nine points as the Piedmont men's lacrosse team edged Brevard 13-9 on Friday evening at the Walker Athletic Complex in a USA South Athletic Conference matchup.

The Tornados (5-6, 2-3) scored the game's opening goal at 13:09 before Piedmont (5-7, 2-2) received goals from A. Jenks and CHASE GOFF to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter.

Brevard again scored the opening goal of the quarter to tie the game 2-2, but Piedmont fired off four unanswered goals to close the half.

B. Jenks gave Piedmont the lead that the Lions would hold for the remainder of the game as JACOB WITTENBERG, JACOB WALKER added goals to put Piedmont ahead 5-2.

With seven seconds left in the first half, A. Jenks found older brother B. Jenks for the Lions' sixth goal.

After the first half, Piedmont outshot Brevard 37-19 while LAMONT NESBITT went 8-of-10 at the faceoff dot.

After a few minutes of no scoring, Piedmont added two goals in a 15-second span to pull ahead 8-2. Brevard would score its third goal at the 9:23 mark, before A. Jenks kept the Lions ahead by six.

The Tornados would then use a three-goal run to cut the lead 9-6 after three quarters.

Wittenberg scored to open the fourth quarter, but Brevard kept things interesting with a pair of goals to only trail 10-8.

The Lions then put the game out of reach with a three-goal run with scores from JOSH COBBINA, JEREMY KOHN and B. Jenks to pull ahead 13-8 with 6:36 left to play. Brevard added a goal with 4:40 left, but time ran out as Piedmont picked up its second USA South win of the season.

Nesbitt finished with 16 faceoff wins and 10 ground balls.

ZACH CZULADA made 17 saves while scooping up six ground balls.

-- BENJAMIN HANFLAND had four caused turnovers and five ground balls in the win.

Turning Point
-- Tied 2-2, Piedmont scored six-straight goals to take an 8-2 lead.

-- Piedmont will play Greensboro on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in Demorest. The game was originally scheduled for March 9.
