Lions Fall on Senior Day to USA South Foe Methodist

DEMOREST, Ga. –  The Piedmont men's lacrosse team dropped a 6-5 contest to USA South Athletic Conference rival Methodist University on Saturday at the Walker Athletic Complex.
 
Methodist (9-6, 4-3) scored the game's first goal at 13:29 to take an early 1-0 lead, but JACOB WITTENBERG answered less than a minute later to tie the game at 1-1.
 
After a scoring drought, the Monarchs pulled ahead 2-1 at 4:14. Then, in the final minute of the first quarter, Methodist scored with 35 seconds left to take a two-goal lead.
 
20 seconds later, BRADY JENKS scored his first of three goals to put Piedmont (7-8, 4-3) down by one headed into the second.
 
Methodist opened the second with a three-goal run to jump out to a 6-2 lead, in the first 4:30, but Piedmont held tight on defense and held the Monarchs scoreless for the remainder of the half.
 
Jenks kept the Lions alive with a goal at 4:39 as Methodist led 6-3 at halftime.
 
The second half was a different story for the Lions as the defense held the Monarchs scoreless for the final 30 minutes.
 
CHASE GOFF scored with four seconds remaining to pull within two. The fourth was similar to the third, but Jenks made it a one-score game with 11:38 left to play.
 
The final 11 minutes was a battle between both schools as each side had plenty of chances to score.
 
With 43 seconds left, Methodist made a save and attempted to clear the ball but turned it over with 24 seconds on the clock. Jenks picked up the loose ball and passed it to AVERY JENKS who fired a shot off but hit the crossbar with 19 seconds remaining.
 
Methodist was able to scoop up the ground ball and run out the clock for the win.
 
ZACH CZULADA had 11 saves and two ground balls.
 
LAMONT NESBITT went 8-for-13 at the faceoff dot and had four ground balls.

Turning Point
-- Methodist used a 3-0 run to start the second quarter.  
 
Inside The Box Score
-- Piedmont outshot the Monarchs 54-38.

Up Next
-- Saturday closed out the regular season for Piedmont. The Lions will advance to the USA South Spring Festival and will play Methodist again on Saturday in the semifinals. Gametime is TBD.
