Men’s Lacrosse Pulls Away Late To Advance to USA South Championship

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont men's lacrosse team defeated Methodist University 11-6 in the USA South Athletic Conference tournament semifinals on Saturday to advance to the championship game on Sunday afternoon.

Piedmont, the No. 3 seed, will play top-seeded Huntingdon College on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in LaGrange, Ga. at Callaway Stadium. For live stats and live video, click here.

Huntingdon outlasted William Peace 17-14 in the first semifinal matchup of the day. The Lions fell 9-3 to the Hawks earlier this season.

Last season, Piedmont lost 10-9 in overtime to Methodist of the USA South semifinals.

Leading 4-3 at halftime, Piedmont (8-8) scored seven second-half goals to win comfortably over the Monarchs (9-7).

JOSH COBBINA scored all four of his goals in the second half while scoring the first thee goals of the third quarter to put Piedmont ahead 7-3.

Methodist added a pair of goals to cut the lead to 7-5, but CHASE GOFF, AVERY JENKS and Cobbina outscored the opponent 4-1 in the final 11:03.

The Monarchs scored the game's first goal, but Piedmont's freshmen answered back with goals from BRYCE DELOACH and BENJAMIN HANFLAND.

Methodist scored late in the quarter to tie the game 2-2.

BRADY JENKS scored his first of two goals midway through the second quarter, but Methodist was there to tie the game once again at 5:56.

B. Jenks gave Piedmont its final lead of the game at 4:44.

LAMONT NESBITT handed Piedmont possession for most of the game by going 12-of-18 at the faceoff dot. The junior also collected eight ground balls.

ZACH CZULADA had 10 saves in the win.

Standout Performers
-- Hanfland also had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Turning Point
--  Piedmont scored three-straight second-half goals to pull ahead 7-.
 
Inside The Box Score
-- Piedmont outshot Methodist 50-26 and collected 37 ground balls.
