MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team remains undefeated in conference play after a 9-0 win at Maryville Wednesday afternoon.
This was a rescheduled contest after rain forced the teams to meet on the courts a day later than originally planned.
Piedmont swept doubles play to set the tone early and continued its dominance through singles play with five sets decided 6-0.
HARRIS SAILORS and
ALEX TOMLIN earned the first win of the day at No. 2 doubles 8-1. No. 3 doubles was also an 8-1 decision with No. 1 doubles going 8-2.
MATEO SMITH made quick work at No. 5 singles going 6-0, 6-1 followed by
ROMAN WEBB with the same scores at No. 2 to clinch.
With the win decided, the Lions swept the remaining matches for the 9-0 win. The loss drops the Scots to 0-10 in conference play and winless on the season.
Up next, Piedmont heads to Brevard on April 16 for a match at 3:00 p.m., one of the final two matches of the regular season.
TURNING POINT:
- The Lions dropped just four sets in doubles play rolling to a 3-0 start in the match and taking care of business quickly in singles play.
