Lions Stumble at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Piedmont men's lacrosse team fell 16-5 to Sewanee on a cold and clear Wednesday night. 

BRADY JENKS scored the game's first goal mid-way through the first quarter, but the Tigers tied the game 38 seconds later. Sewanee then took the lead on a man-up goal before pulling ahead 3-1, 49 seconds later. 

The Lions scored twice early in the second, with goals by Jenks and JOSH COBBINA in the first 1:41 of the quarter. Freshman JACOB WITTENBERG had the assist on Cobbina's man-up goal. 

Tied 3-3, Sewanee would close the half with four unanswered goals to lead 7-3 at halftime. 

ZACH CZULADA made 16 saves in the first half and finished the game with 23. Wednesday marked the fourth straight game with 15 or more saves for the junior.  

The Tigers started the third with a goal less than four minutes into the half, but AVERY JENKS answered with his fifth goal of the season to keep the Lions within four scores. 

Sewanee would start to pull away with a pair of goals in a 35 second span to take a 10-4 lead. After another Sewanee goal, Wittenberg scored Piedmont's final goal of the contest with 26 seconds left in the third quarter. 

The fourth quarter belonged to Sewanee as Piedmont was outscored 5-0 in the final frame. The Tigers pumped out three straight man-up goals to take a commanding 14-5 lead before closing the game with a pair of goals in a 58 second span. 

B. Jenks led the team with two goals while Wittenberg had two points (1g,1a).

-- Tied 3-3, Sewane used a five-goal run to pull away from the Lions.

-- Sewanee fired 69 shots and had twice as many ground balls as Piedmont did (51-25),

-- The Lions will return to the Walker Athletic Complex on Saturday as Piedmont begins USA South action against Greensboro. Gametime is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
