DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team continued its hot start to the season with a 9-0 home rout of Maryville on Monday afternoon.
The Lions (4-0, 1-0 USA South) got off to a strong start by sweeping the doubles and continued the momentum into singles play, dominating play and winning all six matches in straight sets.
Piedmont began the afternoon by dominating the doubles action, not dropping a single game in two of the three matches.
BRANDON GREGORY and
MATEO SMITH put the Lions on the board with an 8-0 win at No. 3 before
ANDREW CHITTY and
CHASE MORRIS shutout the Scots at No. 1.
Leading 3-0 heading into singles, Smith put the Lions up 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 before Gregory clinched the win for PC with a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own at No. 5.
HARRIS SAILORS delivered yet another 0 and 0 win for the Lions at No. 4.
Piedmont also received easy two-set wins at No. 3, No. 2 and No. 1 from
ROMAN WEBB, Chitty and Morris to close out the 9-0 sweep.
Up next, the Lions will travel to Orlando, Florida for the SpringBreakSports.com Tournament, beginning on March 8 with a 10 a.m. match against Carthage.
