MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Piedmont men's lacrosse team fell 18-17 on Saturday in a USA South Athletic Conference matchup to Pfeiffer College.
Trailing 13-6 with 3:31 left in the first half, Piedmont (4-7, 1-2) scored eight unanswered goals to take a 14-13 lead with 3:43 left in the third quarter.
After a Falcons (7-5, 4-0) goal that ended the Lions' streak, freshman
AVERY JENKS scored a man-down goal with 2:24 left before the fourth quarter to give Piedmont a one-goal advantage.
Both teams traded goals to begin the final frame before Pfeiffer scored three-straight to pull ahead 18-16 with 4:03 left.
Piedmont would win the ensuing faceoff and fired four shots before a Piedmont turnover led to a Pfeiffer possession with 2:29 to play.
Pfeiffer was able to get a shot off with 1:25 left, but a save by junior
ZACH CZULADA led to a Piedmont clear that saw the goalkeeper score his first-career goal with 1:16 left in the game.
After making one player miss in the defensive-half of the field, Czulada raced down the field and fired an uncontested shot to keep the Lions in the game.
Piedmont again won the faceoff, but the Lions turned the ball over before a Piedmont penalty all but ended the game.
Pfeiffer was able to burn the penalty time and closed the game with the win.
The opening half belonged to Pfeiffer as the Falcons led 7-4 after the first quarter. Piedmont fell behind 2-0 in the first 1:17 of play, but goals by A. Jenks and
JEREMY KOHN tied the game 2-2 at 12:28 in the first.
The Falcons answered with three goals, but
JOSH COBBINA scored with 8:40 on the clock to pull Piedmont back within two.
Jared Nelson scored two of his seven goals before
BRADY JENKS scored twice to close the first quarter and open the second.
Pfeiffer scored twice more while
NICK BURNS got in on the scoring to keep Piedmont in the game.
After Burns' goal, the Falcons used a four-goal run to pull ahead 13-6.

-- Pfeiffer's Jared Nelson scored 12 points off seven goals and five assists. Nelson tops the league with 51 assists and is fifth with 35 goals.
