ROME, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker on Tuesday evening to Berry.
The loss snaps a season-high five-match win streak for the Lions (10-4), who battled back from dropping two out of three doubles points to split the six singles matches and fall by a single point.
After the Vikings (4-3) rolled to a pair of easy victories at No 2 and No. 1 doubles, Piedmont was able to salvage a point with
HOUSTON MEDLOCK and
CHASE MORRIS's 8-5 victory at No. 3.
The singles portion of the match was split between the top and bottom of the lineup. The Lions made it a match due to outstanding performances at No. 4 through No. 6 singles.
ANDREW CHITTY continued his dominant run with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6. Medlock battled through a pair of tough sets to come out on top, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5, while Morris outlasted Berry's Ben Knight, winning a 10-7 third-set match breaker to prevail at No. 4.
However, already with an advantage after doubles, the Vikings only needed to split the singles, which they accomplished with wins at No. 1 through No. 3.
Up next, the Lions will return to Demorest to host conference foe Berea this Saturday, March 30 at 12 p.m.
