GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Piedmont women's lacrosse team scored 11 second-half goals to take a 15-7 win over USA South Athletic Conference opponent Greensboro College on Sunday afternoon.
Tied 4-4 at halftime, Piedmont used a 7-0 run in the second half to take control with 11:10 left to play. The Pride used a pair of goals to cut the lead to five, but Piedmont answered with a 4-1 run to close the game.
Junior
ROWAN BUMPASS led all players with six points off five goals and one assist. Classmate
DOMONIQUE STEELE added five points with a pair of goals and three assists.
Both teams would trade goals to begin the game before scores by Bumpass and
MACEY HIGGINS made it a 3-1 game. Greensboro closed the half with its own 3-1 run to tie the game 4-4.
Piedmont opened the second with four different goal scorers, Steele,
EMMA FRANSEN,
CASSIDY HEFLIN and
AISLYNN KIMBRO, to pull ahead 8-4 before getting extra-man goals from Heflin and Bumpass to lead 10-4.
MATTIE KEATON started in goal for Piedmont and recorded six saves.
Higgins, Fransen, Kimbro, and Heflin each had two goals while Fransen added two assists.
KAITLYN MORRIS also recorded an assist.
Standout Performers
-- Bumpass (5,1), Steele (2,3) and Fransen (2,2) each had solid days for Piedmont in the win.
-- Heflin added four ground balls, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Turning Point
-- Piedmont used a 7-0 run to start the second half.
