Piedmont Cruises Past Averett in USA South Matchup

DEMOREST, Ga. –  The Piedmont men's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-3 win over Averett University  on Saturday as the Lions picked up their first USA South Athletic Conference win of the season.
 
The Lions (4-6, 1-1) had 13 different goal scorers on the day while AVERY JENKS (3g,1a) and DANIEL MARSHALL (2,2) had four points apiece.
 
Junior JOSH COBBINA scored the game's opening goal at 13:15 before CHASE GOFF, JEREMY KOHN and A. Jenks added goals to give Piedmont an early 4-0 lead. Averett (1-8, 0-3) scored with 2:46 left in the first quarter to bring the score within three.
 
BRADY JENKS scored a man-up goal at 9:36 in the second quarter before LAMONT NESBITT won the ensuing faceoff and raced down the field for his first goal of the season.
 
At the faceoff dot, Nesbit won 14-of-17 and scooped up a game-high nine ground balls. CLINT SIMMONS won 6-of-10 faceoffs and had eight ground balls.
 
After Nesbitt's goal, Piedmont scored five more to head into halftime leading 11-1.
 
Kohn scored 50 seconds into the second half as the Lions tallied five straight before Averett answered with 2:51 left in the third.
 
Piedmont opened the fourth with five-straight goals to lead 20-2 before Averett scored with 4:02 left in the game.
 
A. Jenks added the last goal of the game with 3:09 to play.  
 
Goalie ZACH CZULADA earned the win as he played the first 30 minutes. RYAN MORGAN played the third quarter while PARKER CHEATHAM closed the game in the fourth.

-- Piedmont jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 11-1 at halftime.  
 
Inside The Box Score
-- The Lions outshot Averett 60-20 and held a 57-39 ground ball advantage.

-- Piedmont will have a week to rest and will play at Pfeiffer on Saturday, March 30, at 12:00 p.m.
