Men’s Tennis Outlasts LaGrange 5-4

LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team remained unbeaten in USA South play, outlasting LaGrange in a 5-4 road thriller on Tuesday night.
 
All three doubles matches were closely contested, with the Lions (9-3, 6-0 USA South) prevailing in two of the three to take a 2-1 edge into singles.
 
At No. 3 doubes, HOUSTON MEDLOCK and CHASE MORRIS emerged victorious, 8-6, to give PC the early 1-0 lead. The Panthers (4-2, 3-1 USA South) answered back with an 8-5 win at No. 1 before ANDREW CHITTY and HARRISON LABOLLITA outlasted Will Thompson and Trevor McLemore, 11-9, in a tiebreaker to give the Lions the lead.
 
LaGrange took the momentum back early in singles play, earning a pair of straight-set victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
 
Then, at No. 3 singles, freshman JARRETT GRAY evened the score at 3-3 with a 6-4, 6-2 win. 
 
Senior ANDREW CHITTY continued his dominant run at No. 6 singles, coming up with a key 6-3, 6-1 win to put Piedmont within a point of clinching the match.
 
Playing No. 5, it was Morris who emerged with a 6-3, 6-3 win to ensure PC remained undefeated in conference matches.
 
Although the Panthers prevailed in the last match at No. 4 in a third-set breaker, PC took the match by a final of 5-4.
 
Up next, the Lions will return home to host Covenant next Tuesday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- With the match tied at 3-3, Chitty delivered a crucial point with an easy win at No. 6 singles. Moments later, Morris clinched the match for the Lions.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Chitty's win at No. 6 singles moves his season record to a team-best 10-1.
