Lions Fall in Neutral Site Matchup to Va. Wesleyan

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Piedmont men's lacrosse team lost 16-12 to Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in a neutral site game played at Daffin Park in Savannah, Georgia. 

Piedmont scored the game's first goal as BRADY JENKS found CHASE GOFF for the opening tally. 

Both teams would trade a pair of goals in the opening quarter as JOSH COBBINA and JACOB WITTENBERG scored for Lions. Piedmont would lead 3-2 after the first. 

The Marlins scored eight seconds into the second quarter before Wittenberg and Jenks scored to keep Piedmont ahead. 

After a Va. Wesleyan goal, Cobbina gave Piedmont its final lead of the game with 10:40 left in the first half. 

Va. Wesleyan would rattle off four goals in just over five minutes to lead 8-6 at halftime. 

Both teams traded goals in the third quarter with Piedmont getting goals from AVERY JENKS, Wittenberg and B. Jenks, but the Marlins again closed the quarter with four goals in less than two minutes to lead 13-9 headed into the final frame. 

After a Va. Wesleyan goal to start the fourth, B. Jenks and JARED BROCK scored for the Lions to pull within three, but the Marlins scored twice in the final 6:46 with a Wittenberg goal sandwiched in between. 

ZACH CZULADA had 18 saves and four ground balls in the loss. 

Wittenberg led Piedmont with four goals and one assist while B. Jenks scored three and added one assist.
