DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team blanked Huntingdon 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Burgen Tennis Courts in Demorest.
The Lions (8-3, 5-0 USA South) cruised to a 3-0 lead after taking all three doubles points and continued their strong play in singles, winning all six matches against the Hawks (4-3, 2-3 USA South).
In doubles play, Piedmont jumped out to an early lead by taking a pair of 8-3 wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The No. 1 doubles team of JARRETT GRAY and KANLER CUMBASS outlasted the Hawks' Mark Melchor and Carson Sands to give PC the clean sweep and a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
Gray gave the Lions the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 before ANDREW CHITTY clinched the match at No. 5, winning 6-3, 6-2.
Cumbass, playing at No. 1, took a 6-2, 6-2 win while ROMAN WEBB dropped two games at No. 6, but picked up the win 6-1, 6-1.
The final two singles wins came from HOUSTON MEDLOCK at No. 2 and CHASE MORRIS at No. 4. Medlock won 6-2, 6-2 while Morris won 6-2, 6-4.
Up next, the Lions will travel to LaGrange for a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday, March 20.
