Baseball Drops Game Two to LaGrange 7-4

DEMOREST, Ga. – After several comeback wins, the Piedmont College baseball team was unable to be comeback kids once more losing a 7-4 decision to LaGrange Saturday. Both teams were rolling offensively through the first two innings, but the Lions were unable to maintain momentum.

After posting five hits in the second inning, Piedmont did not have multiple hits in an inning through the duration of the contest. 

The Panthers took the lead off starter RYAN COX in the second inning with three consecutive hits with two outs on the board. LaGrange plated two runs, but the Lions answered in the bottom of the second with three runs on five hits. FOWLER BROOKS and EVAN MEADE singled followed by a KYLE DEJESUS double to score the first run of the game for the home team. 

ZACHARY SWINDELL singled to score both runners on base and give Piedmont a 3-2 advantage. From there, the Lions were unable to string together anything offensively, but LaGrange would add one run in the third inning to tie the contest. DAVID CRAFT entered in relief on the mound for Piedmont, but the Panthers managed to claim the lead in the fifth inning with two runs on two hits and one error handing Craft the loss.

The Lions had just two hits in the contest from the fifth inning on despite being able to add a run in the ninth inning. 

LaGrange left 14 runners on base leaving the bases loaded three times in the contest. 
 
TURNING POINT:
- The Panthers took advantage of back-to-back singles to open the fifth coupled with a walk and an error to score the game-winning run and take a 5-3 lead over the Lions. 
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- KYLE DEJESUS was 1-for-3 at the plate but his work defensively was impressive with a tag out at home saving a run and throwing out a runner attempting to steal third.
- ZACHARY SWINDELL was 2-for-3 with two RBI as his 2-RBI single gave the Lions the lead in the second inning 3-2.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
- The loss is just the second for the Lions in conference play in 2019.
- The series is now locked at 1-1 with game three determining the series victor.
