DEMOREST, Ga. – Once again in come-from-behind fashion, the Piedmont College baseball team won 11-3 over LaGrange College Friday at Loudermilk Field. The Lions used a solid effort from starter
SAM CARPENTER to move to 16-4 on the year and 8-1 in league play.
Carpenter earned the win on the mound pitching 8.0 innings allowing eight hits, three runs and six strikeouts to 33 batters. Carpenter moved to 3-0 on the season with his first start on Friday as the deemed "Friday starter."
The Lions trailed early as the Panthers jumped ahead with a 3-run homerun in the first inning, but that was all they would muster throughout the contest as Carpenter allowed two hits in the first inning, but would shut down the Panthers' attack over the next seven frames.
Piedmont answered back with one run in the second inning but it was the sixth inning that changed the contest as the Lions managed six runs on four hits and one error. LaGrange went to the bullpen in the inning but starter JR Robinson took the loss giving up five runs.
BRADY BALLSTADT doubled to increase his career-best mark as the senior holds the record for career doubles in Piedmont history. Momentum stayed on the side of the Lions as they scored 10 of their 11 runs in the final three innings.
This marked the seventh time in 12 home games at Loudermilk Field that the Lions have scored in double figures.
TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont used a six-run sixth inning to take control of the contest and maintained momentum throughout the duration of the game.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

SAM CARPENTER pitched eight innings with six strikeouts giving him 50 for the season which has him ranked within the top five in strikeouts in DIII.

EVAN MEADE and
ZACHARY SWINDELL both had three hit performances with an RBI and two runs scored.
NEWS AND NOTES:
- The win puts Piedmont at 8-1 in conference play behind 6-0 Methodist in league play.
