ATLANTA – Thanks to timely hitting in extra innings, the Piedmont College baseball team earned a 4-2 comeback win over Oglethorpe Tuesday evening in Atlanta. The Lions managed two runs on two hits in the tenth to claim the lead and 
MATT VONDERSCHMIDT shut down the Stormy Petrels to close out the win. 
It was a quiet game as neither team scored until the fourth inning. Piedmont's first run was walked in after a walk, a single, and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. 
In the sixth inning, the Stormy Petrels tacked on one to tie the contest as it was again just one hit coupled with walks and a hit by pitch to manufacture a run. 
Oglethorpe took the lead in the eighth inning after a pair of hits, but left two runners on base as the Lions limited the damage. Needing to score one to tie, the Lions rose to the occasion in the ninth as 
ANDREW BURDEN was walked then advanced to second and third on groundouts. 
With two outs in the ninth, 
EVAN MEADE singled up the middle to score Burden and tie the contest. 
MATT VONDERSCHMIDT who entered in the eighth inning closed out the contest with 1-2-3 innings in the ninth and tenth. 
The Lions scored two in the tenth off two doubles and a sac fly. The win improves the Lions to 15-4 overall as they are ranked #20 in the D3baseball.com poll. 
Up next, the Lions host LaGrange inside Loudermilk Field over the weekend for a three game USA South series. 
 
TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont claimed the lead in the top of the tenth inning on a pair of doubles by 
TYLER SHELEY then 
WES SNYDER. 
TYLER BURDETTE added the insurance run with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. 
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- 
MATT VONDERSCHMIDT answered the call pitching the final 2.1 innings allowing one hit to the nine batters he faced. 
- 
CAMERON JOHNSON and 
WES SNYDER both posted two hits in the contest. 
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
- The Lions posted a 3-0 record against the Stormy Petrels in 2019.
