DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College baseball team completed the series sweep of William Peace Monday with a pair of wins in USA South play. The Lions won 12-3 in game one then left no doubt in game two with a 13-0 win in seven innings.
Piedmont (14-4, 7-1 USA South) struck first in game one and led 4-0 in the third before the Pacers (3-11, 0-5 USA South) began to chip away at the lead.
EVAN MEADE accounted for three of the first four RBI in the game after a double and a single.
The Lions scored in every inning but the second and eighth as they had 15 hits in game one.
RYAN COX earned the win to move to 2-0 after pitching six innings striking out six and allowing four hits.
In game two, the Lions raced out with eight runs in the first inning chasing the Pacers' starter before he recorded an out. There were five hits in the frame for Piedmont who sent 13 batters to the plate with five walks in the inning.
MAX BENING tossed six innings giving up two hits and struck out 11 batters. There was a rain delay in the bottom of the third inning with
ANDREW BURDEN at the plate that lasted approximately 40 minutes.
TYLER BURDETTE and
ZACH NORMAN hit their first homeruns of the season with Norman's coming in game one and Burdette's in game two.
TURNING POINT:
- The Lions took control of the contests early putting up a three spot in the first inning of game one and eight runs in the first inning of game two.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Second game starter
MAX BENING recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in the contest.

ANDREW BURDEN was an impressive 4-for-5 in game one with three runs scored and three RBI and recorded two more hits in game two.
- In total, the Lions had nine multi-hit performances in the doubleheader.

- In Piedmont's two home conference doubleheaders, the Lions have scored 56 runs.
