DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 13-10 battle to USA South Athletic Conference foe Pfeiffer University on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.
 
The Falcons (3-0, 2-0 USA South) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first 7:56 of the game to take a comfortable lead early. After falling behind 2-0, Piedmont's AISLYNN KIMBRO gave the Lady Lions their first goal, but the Falcons answered back with two more scores.
 
Piedmont would then score three straight to tie the game 4-4. CASSIDY HEFLIN got things going for the Lady Lions with a free position goal at the 17:53 mark before ROWAN BUMPASS scored less than 50 seconds to pull within one. EMMA FRANSEN scored her only goal of the game to tie the game at 14:25.
 
Pfeiffer answered back with goals at 12:15 and 9:11 to pull ahead by two, but Bumpass scored twice in a 17-second span to tie the score.
 
The Falcons would close out the half with two more goals to lead 8-6 at halftime.
 
Bumpass opened the second half with her fourth and final goal of the day before DOMONIQUE STEELE scored at 23:88 to even the score 8-8.
 
Pfeiffer then used a four-goal run to pull away 12-8. Piedmont answered back with goals from Kimbro and SAMANTHA ISHEE, but the Pfeiffer added a security goal with 4:26 left and controlled the ball for the remainder of the game.
 
MATTIE KEATON had 17 saves and four ground balls in the loss.
 
 
Standout Performers
-- Kimbro (2,1) and Heflin (1,2) had three points apiece while Ishee and Steele each had one goal and one assist.
-- Pfeiffer's Meagan Bourque had a game-high eight points off five goals and three assists.
 
Turning Point
-- Tied 8-8, Pfeiffer used a four-goal run to pull ahead 12-8.

Up Next
-- The Lady Lions will travel to Clearwater, Fla. for an 11:30 a.m. matchup against Swarthmore College on Thursday.
