ORLANDO, Fla. – The Piedmont College men's tennis team fell, 6-3, to Transylvania on Sunday morning at the SpringBreakSports.com Tournament in Orlando.
The Lions (5-3) dropped two of the three doubles matches while Transylvania (1-4) went 3-0 in third-set tiebreakers to win four of the six singles matches and earn the victory.
The day started off well for Piedmont, as
ROMAN WEBB and
HOUSTON MEDLOCK cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. However, the Pioneers responded by taking the doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 1 to grab a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Piedmont quickly evened the score at 2 apiece with Webb's 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Transy answered back with a two-set victory at No. 2 to pull back in front before
ANDREW CHITTY continued his strong start to the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 to even the score again.
The final three matches each went to a third-set breaker and all three were won by the Pioneers, with Hugo Kouhkna's 10-8 breaker win at No. 1 giving them the clincher.
Up next, the Lions will play two final matches in Orlando on Tuesday, March 12, starting at 11:30 a.m. against Morningside.
