DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of season on Tuesday night, defeating Oglethorpe 16-8 at the Walker Athletic Complex.

Oglethorpe looked to be in good shape as Caroline Chamberlin scored 18 seconds into the game.

Piedmont would respond in a dominant fashion, scoring 12 straight goals to close out the first half.

Juniors
ROWAN BUMPASS and
DOMONIQUE STEELE combined for nine of the 12 first-half goals.
Â
Bumpass tied the game at the 28:16 mark before Steele scored twice in a 38-second span to give Piedmont a 3-1 lead, which it held for the remainder of the game.

Bumpass would add a pair herself before classmate
CASSIDY HEFLIN scored with 19:02 left on the clock.

After another Bumpass goal, sophomore
EMMA FRANSEN scored twice with a Steele goal sandwiched in between.

Steele closed the half with a goal at 6:28 and a goal with 18 seconds left.

Piedmont led 12-1 at the break.

Oglethorpe would pull within nine goals after scoring twice to open the second half.

Both teams would trade goals before
MADISON VOSHALL gave Piedmont a 14-4 lead with 16:35 remaining.

The Stormy Petrels would attempt a late comeback, scoring four unanswered goals in just over a 10-minute span, but the Lady Lions closed the game with goals from Fransen and Bumpass. Â

Senior goalkeeper
MATTIE KEATON stayed strong in between the pipes, making 15 saves with 10 coming in the first half.

Heflin finished with one goal, three assists and seven draw controls.

Fransen added three goals with one assist.
