DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's lacrosse team opened its 2019 season with an 18-5 win over in-state opponent Oglethorpe University on Wednesday.
The Stormy Petrels jumped out to a 2-1 lead with 3:34 remaining left in the first quarter, but
JONAH PRESTON tied the score with 26 seconds left to play.
Piedmont would take that momentum in the second quarter and scored five straight to pull ahead 7-2. Oglethorpe stopped the scoring at the 8:52 mark, but the Lions closed the half with a
JARED BROCK goal and led 8-3 at the break.
The third quarter was all Piedmont as the Lions scored eight goals to Oglethorpe's zero.
Both teams closed the game with a pair of goals in the fourth.
BRADY JENKS led all players with five goals and added one assist.
JOSH COBBINA added five points off three goals and two assists.
Freshmen
AVERY JENKS and
JARED BROCK totaled four points. Jenks scored once with three assists while Brock had four goals.
ZACH CZULADA played three quarters and allowed three goals while making seven saves.
LAMONT NESBITT had a stellar game at the faceoff dot, winning 17-of-20 with two ground balls.
