Volleyball Drops Two in Conference Play

NEED TO KNOW:

BEREA, Ky. – Stepping back into conference action on the road, the Piedmont College volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Berea and Maryville Saturday. 

Piedmont led 11-9 against Berea in the first set, but the Mountaineers used an 8-2 run to establish a lead of their own and held on for a 25-22 win. Berea had set point at 24-20 and Piedmont tacked on two additional points but could not overcome the deficit. 

In the second set, the Mountaineers led 14-6 early and coasted to a 25-14 win. The Mountaineers again used runs to build a lead in the third set with an 18-8 lead and had match point at 24-13. Piedmont scored six straight to stay alive but could not outlast Berea who won 25-19. 

BRIANNA KING led the Lady Lions with 11 kills while ALI WILKINS had 16 assists. 

Opening against Maryville, Piedmont led early and had a 17-15 advantage late. The Scots scored six straight and claimed the first set 25-19.The second set would take extra points to decide as Maryville had set point at 24-23, but Piedmont added two and forced extras. The score favored the Scots in the end with a 28-26 win. 

A six point run late in the third set sealed the win for the Scots as they took the third 25-15. ALINA ROBERTS posted 11 kills with King and HANNAH KATE CHADWELL posting seven each. LAINEY CHOINIERE led with 17 digs. 
 
TURNING POINT:
--In the second set against Maryville, Piedmont saw its best chance to steal a set as it took extra points with the Scots edging out the Lady Lions 28-26.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--BRIANNA KING posted 11 kills against Berea to lead the Lady Lions while ALINA ROBERTS tallied 11 against Maryville.
