BEREA, Ky. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team defeated Berea College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in a USA South Athletic Conference showdown.
Piedmont (4-4-1, 3-3-1 USAS) jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half as
JOSE LINARES found
CAMERON EARLS following a corner kick in the 28th minute.
The Lions went into halftime trailing 10-8 in shots and 5-6 in corners
.
After the break, Linares would add the Lions' second goal after a Berea foul inside the 18-yard box. The senior captain converted the ensuing penalty kick to put Piedmont ahead 2-0 in the 56th.
The Mountaineers wouldn't go away quietly though, as they scored just over a minute later to pull within one score.
Piedmont would hold the lead and added an insurance goal in the 78th after
MALAMIN JALLOW scored off a keeper deflection from an Earls' shot.
Six Lions took two or more shots with Earls and
LULE TEKILEMARIAM taking three apiece. Jallow added two shots on goal.
SAMUEL PELLETIER made the start in goal and finished with two saves and one goal allowed in 90 minutes.
TURNING POINT:
- Following a Berea foul inside the 18', Linares converted a penalty kick to put Piedmont ahead 2-0.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCE:
- Linares scored once and added one assist off two shots.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont led 19-15 in shots, 7-3 shots on goal and 11-8 in corner kicks.
