Men’s Soccer Drops Home Contest to Sewanee 4-1

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team fell, 4-1, to Sewanee on Wednesday night at the Walker Athletic Complex.
 
The Tigers (11-3-1) scored twice in the first half and two more times in the second half to run away with the 4-1 victory.
 
The Lions (7-7-2) were able to cut their deficit to a single goal after a JOSE LINARES penalty kick late in the first half,but were never able to equalize.
 
For the third consecutive contest, Piedmont surrendered the game's first goal, as Sewanee's Christian Kirk scored off an assist from Thompson Schollaert in the 12th minute. Then, just under seven minutes later, the Tigers extended their lead as Schollaert finished this time, off a cross from Bryan Franklin.
 
After a wave of substitutions, PC's LULE TEKILEMARIAM drew a foul inside the box and Linares was able to convert the penalty kick to cut PC's deficit to 2-1.
 
The Lions had a few good chances to equalize thwarted by the Tigers early in the second half before Sewanee's Evan Poole took advantage of a cross and a wide open net to put PC back in a two-goal hole.
 
Just over 13 minutes later, the Tigers added their final goal of the contest to hand the Lions their largest loss of the season.
 
Up next, the Lions close out their home schedule on Senior Day against Huntingdon on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- Trailing by only a goal and threatening, Piedmont surrendered a goal in the 52nd minute to give Sewanee a two-goal cushion once again.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCESL
- JOSE LINARES converted another penalty kick goal in the first half, his ninth goal of the season.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
- Wednesday night's 4-1 loss marked just the second time this season that Piedmont has lost by more than a goal.
