Match 1: Covenant 3, Piedmont 1
The Lady Lions (6-13, 2-4 USA South) started slowly against the Scots (6-12, 5-2 USA South), never leading in the first set as Covenant rolled to a 25-15 victory.
Piedmont responded with a stronger start to the second set, jumping out to a 10-7 lead early to force a Covenant timeout. However, the Scots reeled off four consecutive points coming out of the timeout to take an 11-10 lead and did not trail in the set after that point.
After PC tied the score at 17-17, the Scots took the next eight points to run away with the second set, 25-17.
Neither side was able to separate in the third set until Covenant jumped in front, 17-14, forcing a Piedmont timeout. Trailing 19-14, the Lady Lions won six of the next seven points to tie the score at 20-all. Then, after Covenant answered back with a 23-20 edge, PC took five straight out of a timeout to force the match to a fourth set.
Covenant returned the favor in the fourth, rallying from down, 20-17, to win, 25-23, off a kill by Leah Buys.
