BREVARD, N.C. -  The Piedmont College volleyball team opened USA South play Wednesday night with a 3-0 win over Brevard College. The Tornados are winless this season, but gave Piedmont a close battle with two sets decided by five points or less. 

Piedmont trailed early, but four straight errors by the Tornados put Piedmont in front 8-7 in the first set. It was close throughout in the first set with Brevard leading 22-20 but Piedmont was able to close it out 25-23.

The second set was close again, this time with Piedmont leading 22-20 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 win. The Lady Lions jumped out quickly in the third set to lead 11-4 and later 17-6 before winning in straight sets with a 25-14 victory. 

TATIANA PAULA had 12 kills while adding three aces and ERICA BALKCUM added 11 kills as the only other Lady Lion in double digits. 

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions started strong with an 11-4 lead in the third set to maintain control and finish the sweep.

Standout Performances
--JENNA WENDEL led Piedmont in assists and digs with 23 assists and 21 digs. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont begins the USA South schedule 1-0 with a tri-match awaiting over the weekend.

--The Lady Lions head to Covenant College for a tri-match hosted by the Scots with LaGrange College as well.
